Introduction
Hi everyone, my name is Becca and I am the general manager and I oversee the garage reception. I am supported with this by Vicki.
For many years now, I have been totally frustrated as a female driver, with all the derogatory treatment and comments by men when going into a garage. This is something I hear all the time from other women drivers, and I find it quite offensive. The garage industry still has very few women staff, and this needs to change.
So now I am actually in a position to change that culture and lead the way forward in offering an almost all female reception team at Feakins Garage. I treat lady drivers as I would expect to be treated myself, with honesty, straight talking and no garage jargon.
After my own very poor experiences, I really want to help all the women drivers who are fearful of garages. Feakins Garage is definitely female friendly, as I am in the position now to ensure that is the case every time. I am slowly embarking on a campaign to support and help you, and this began by providing a female reception team at Feakins.
Moving forward, my plan is to offer women support and advice through Social Media, so to begin the process, we need you to like us on Facebook, where we can begin to post more relevant information to female drivers. - Our reception team will have a female member of staff almost all the times during our normal working day.

IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) Report:
Independent garages face missing out on millions of pounds in revenue because they employ too few female staff and are intimidating to women drivers, a new study reveals.
A new survey recently released by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) shows that 96% of women drivers want to see more females in garages.
It also reveals that large numbers of women still feel uncomfortable when taking their car for repair, this is due to the fear of being ripped off and getting confronted by the technical ‘jargon’ many garages use when talking to female drivers
IMI CEO Steve Nash said:
“The number of women drivers in the UK continues to increase year on year; its important businesses understand and develop their methods, behavior and attitudes to reflect the changes in the consumer landscape.
Young women’s car insurance premiums have increased by 50 percent, as insurers adjust their prices to comply with new European “gender neutral” rules.
According to a study by uSwitch.com, 17 and 18 year old female drivers have seen huge increases, while premiums for male drivers have dropped on average by 12 percent.
The study found that men still paid more for their car insurance, but that the gap between average premiums had dropped from 14 percent to 2 percent!
